Born in Kessel, The Netherlands, Lars grew up in the countryside surrounded by nature. His artistic creativity showed first through his interest for painting from a very early age, and it was this interest which aroused also his interest for music: “the painting with sound”, as he likes to call it. Having his first piano lessons from a local music teacher John Timmermans, he went later on to have lessons with Peter Simons in Venlo. After finishing high school he entered the piano class of Avi Schönfeld where he studied until he graduated in 2005. In 2006 Lars Nelissen moved to China where he lived and worked as a piano teacher until 2009. When coming back to The Netherlands he picked up his work again as a piano teacher and took the position of choir conductor of several choirs. Also is he appointed since as organist of various churches.
As a pianist Lars Nelissen van Gasselt gives recitals and performed in Europe, China and Japan. In 2013 Lars joined and was selected a finalist in The Yokohama International Music Competition in Japan and received a special jury-prize.

Besides music Lars Nelissen is very much interested in literature and writing poetry. Also is he fond of reading and knowing about science, psychology, philosophy and the occult. He is a strong advocate of the synthesis of art, science and philosophy. He sees art as a psychological process within oneself in which all knowledge becomes crystallized into beauty and truth.
