Lars Nelissen van Gasselt received his first piano lessons from John Timmermans in Kessel. Soon he continued piano lessons with Peter Simons in Venlo while still receiving lessons from John Timmermans in music theory and solège. In 1998 Lars entered the conservatory of Maastricht in the piano class of Avi Schönfeld. In that same year he also started his studies for choir conducting / church music at that same school. After 7 years of studies under Avi Schönfeld, Lars Nelissen graduated as a performing artist. Schönfeld (himself a former pupil of Artur RubinsteinVlado PerlemuterYvonne LefèbureMarcel Ciampi and for composition Nadia Boulanger and Alexander Tansman) had a great influence on the musical and artistic development of Lars Nelissen. Soon after his graduation Lars went to China where he was teaching the piano from 2006 until 2009.

Lars Nelissen van Gasselt followed masterclasses with Tellef Juva, Jean-Marie CotetDominique Merlet and Evgeny Moguilevsky.
